The first movement seems to lack dramatic bite, the orchestra appear to be rowing across a pond in a skiff instead of defying the storm in open sea. The oboe and violin in the second movement were brilliant, though.
The Capriccio espagnol sounds like an outing to the outskirts of Nizhny Novgorod, very little of the Mediterranean sun here.
Not an especially valuable addition to the recorded output, but still very well played and recorded with great sensitivity. I would still go for the older versions of Beecham or Beinum. Rather a pity, for someone whose parents' reputation seems to seal his own.
